Replacement and expansion

A whole-inverter replacement needs a system diagram and a clear project brief. These establish the equipment scope and engineering interfaces.

  • Nameplate and system diagram
  • PV-side and grid parameters
  • Required supply scope

Selecting a Sungrow solar inverter

Start with the installation type: a small building, an industrial roof or a utility solar plant. Record the PV array capacity, grid connection arrangement and the intended role of any battery system. A grid-connected inverter and a hybrid inverter serve different system requirements.

Describe the existing equipment separately from the equipment proposed for addition. For an operating site, provide a single-line diagram, an inverter schedule and photographs of the nameplates. For a new project, a completed technical questionnaire can establish the starting point.

The resulting equipment schedule should identify the exact model, quantity and project interfaces for engineering review.

String inverters for commercial installations

SG125CX-P2 and SG150CX have a nominal AC output of 400 V. This is a useful comparison point, while the full configuration depends on the installation design. Include module identification, modules per string, string count and the proposed input allocation in the enquiry.

Describe arrays on different roof slopes, orientations or shaded areas separately. The project engineer checks the input arrangement against the selected inverter version. Procurement then follows the agreed model and accessory schedule.

Keeping the inverter, cable work and distribution equipment as separate entries makes quotations easier to compare and gives each party a clear equipment boundary.

High-power conversion for utility plants

SG320/350HX-20 uses a nominal AC voltage of 800 V, while the 1+X 2.0 modular platform lists 645 V. Coordinate these values with the transformer and distribution arrangement. For a utility project, include the planned plant capacity, number of conversion units and their connection diagram.

Where procurement follows construction phases, identify the equipment assigned to each phase and any existing installed system. A modular platform is an agreed set of power units and interfaces. List the main conversion equipment, connection accessories and communication devices separately.

Also identify project items supplied by other contractors so the quotation has a defined scope.

Hybrid inverters and battery configuration

The SH5/6/8/10/12T product information lists SBH and SBR batteries. An enquiry should identify the proposed battery configuration and describe the loads and operating scenario. Energy capacity in kWh and conversion power in kW describe different requirements, so record both where applicable.

Explain whether the project concerns increased solar self-consumption, energy flow management or a designed supply arrangement for selected loads. For an existing installation, provide the controller, metering equipment and system version information.

These details allow the inverter and storage equipment to be considered together, including communication interfaces and the required balance of equipment for the installation.

Documenting the PV array

Useful DC-side information includes the module model, modules per string, number of strings and assignment to inverter inputs. A relevant drawing is generally clearer than a free-form description.

For a retrofit, record the actual installed array as well as the original design, especially where the plant has been expanded in stages. A product's maximum PV voltage is an engineering limit, not a complete string design. Operating conditions must be checked for the specific site.

Submit the agreed configuration for procurement so the inverter, connection equipment and cable arrangement can be discussed against the same set of project data.

Grid connection and equipment boundaries

State the grid voltage, frequency, phase arrangement, connection point and transformer details in the enquiry. Industrial projects benefit from a single-line diagram showing distribution devices and the point of connection.

If a site control system manages the installation, describe the required data exchange and power-control functions. Identify responsibilities for the inverter, external protection, metering, cables, communication and installation work.

A clear schedule supports a practical completeness check before dispatch and at receipt. It also allows precise questions about the selected regional equipment variant to be raised with the manufacturer or supply channel using the actual project requirements.

Monitoring and communication equipment

A monitoring system may combine inverter information, measurements and communication devices. Before selecting an additional item, identify the devices already installed and show how they are connected. Include the data logger model, communication module marking and network diagram where available.

Separate local site monitoring from access through a cloud platform when describing the requirement. For an inverter replacement, list communication equipment to be retained alongside equipment to be supplied. This helps define the hardware scope and integration points.

When the requirement is a replacement communication module alone, its own part identification is more useful than the general monitoring platform name.

Identifying a replacement component

Begin with a photograph of the complete inverter nameplate and a photograph of the requested component marking. Add views of the whole component, its connectors and mounting position, together with the required quantity.

If a spare-parts list identifies the item, provide the relevant page and assembly reference. Different versions within a series can use different constructions, so retain the full model suffix and serial number throughout the enquiry. Describe the procurement item separately from the reported fault.

The enquiry may concern a component identified by the service organisation, or a proposal to replace the whole inverter after engineering assessment.

New installations and retrofit projects

An approved equipment schedule is the normal starting point for a new installation. A retrofit also needs information about existing connections, mounting arrangements and control interfaces.

Where a different model is proposed, the project engineer reviews the offered version against the actual installation. State the procurement priority: retaining a specified model, developing a suitable configuration or comparing defined alternatives. Keep each alternative's equipment scope separate.

This allows comparison of the inverter, accessories and necessary site interfaces together. The decision on the electrical installation arrangement remains part of the customer's project, supported by the equipment information obtained during sourcing.

Supply scope and incoming inspection

Prepare a quantity schedule for the main equipment and requested accessories. Record the full inverter model, version and agreed accompanying documents. List communication devices, connection items and spare parts as individual positions where they are part of the order.

At receipt, compare packaging and product identification with the order, count packages and record visible shipment condition. Keep nameplate and package-label photographs with the project records. For phased commissioning, agree the allocation of equipment to installation stages in advance.

This gives the installation contractor a clear handover and supports later tracking of the exact inverter versions operating at the site.

Preparing a purchasing enquiry

Send the model, quantity, installation purpose and delivery destination. Attach an equipment schedule or questionnaire for a system enquiry, and part markings with photographs for a component enquiry.

If the configuration is still being developed, provide the known site parameters and the intended operating task. State whether the request includes batteries, communication devices, metering or only the inverter.

For a large list, use a separate row for each item and retain the manufacturer's original designation together with your internal position number. This makes the quotation easier to match to project documentation and prevents similar Sungrow series from being combined into one ambiguous item.

Availability, pricing, lead time, compatibility, documentation and cloud functions are confirmed for the selected version. This page does not establish authorised dealer status or an undertaking to provide design or installation services.
