About ESAB

ESAB was founded in 1904 by the Swedish engineer Oscar Kjellberg, who developed the first coated welding electrode; the family includes Victor, Tweco and Thermal Dynamics.

According to the manufacturer: 147 countries, more than 40 brands, 26 plants.

Where to start

Define the subject of the request: a machine, a cutting system, a consumable or gas equipment. This decides the business line and the data needed for a quotation.

Machine and torch: welding; plasma and CNC: cutting; electrode and wire: consumables; regulator and attachment: Victor.

Cases between business lines

ESAB names repeat across lines: a torch may be for welding, plasma or gas, and SR may be a regulator or a TIG torch.

TXH and Tweco Fusion: welding; 1Torch SL60: cutting; SR 250 and CA 2460: Victor.

What to attach

The full product nameplate, serial number, a photo of the part and the package contents make it possible to identify the version and quote the supply.

For diagnostics and repair, add the error code and the conditions of the fault.

Input data for selection

Subject of the request, process, material and thickness, current and duty cycle, site power supply and the boundaries of the package.

Parts for installed equipment

Nameplate designation, serial number, a photo of the part, ESAB order number and quantity.

Where to start

Decide what you need: a new machine or system, a package for an existing installation, consumables or gas equipment. Then choose the business line: welding equipment, thermal cutting, welding consumables or Victor gas equipment.

For new equipment, state in advance the process, material and thickness, required current and duty cycle, site power supply and the boundaries of the package: what is included and what stays on site.

How to tell the business line from the designation

Rebel EMP, Warrior, Aristo and Origo Mig are welding machines; Cutmaster, iSeries, Swift-Cut, Combirex, Suprarex and 1Torch belong to thermal cutting; OK, Dual Shield and Shield-Bright are welding consumables; ESS, ETS, SR, CA, ST, HC and FB are Victor gas equipment.

A prefix does not replace the full designation: SR appears on Victor regulators and on the SR-B TIG torch, and OK needs a grade number such as OK 67.50 or OK Flux 10.71.

A package from several business lines

A welding power source is matched with a wire feeder and torch from the equipment section and wire from the consumables section. A Swift-Cut Pro machine is matched with an A120 source and an SL100 torch with consumables.

List the elements of the package line by line and mark which are part of the order: each unit has its own documentation and number.

Torches, cutters and regulators

The word torch covers different products. MIG and TIG welding torches such as Tweco Fusion, MXH, TXH and SR-B are on the welding equipment page; 1Torch SL60 and SL100 plasma torches are on the thermal cutting page.

Victor ST and HC gas cutting torches, 315FC handles, CA attachments and ESS, ETS and SR regulators belong to gas equipment. A regulator is chosen by gas, inlet pressure and CGA connection.

Power supply and versions

One ESAB series often comes in several supply versions. Rebel EMP 215ic is rated for 120/230 V, Renegade accepts 208–460 V, Warrior 500i and Aristo 500ix are three-phase 380–575 V, Cutmaster 30+ takes 110–240 V and Cutmaster 60i runs on 400 V.

State the voltage and number of phases in the request together with the designation; for Aristo Edge 500R the manufacturer lists 460–575 V (CSA) and 380–460 V (CE) versions.

Automation and digital tracking

SAW tractors, robotic cells with the Aristo Edge 500R, the ROBBI Mobile cobot and WeldCloud belong to welding equipment; the Vision T6 controller for cutting machines belongs to thermal cutting.

For a robotic cell, describe the product, batch size, weld positions and required output.

How to read manufacturer data

The current on the nameplate depends on the supply and duty: the Rebel EMP 215ic gives 235 A in MIG at 230 V and 15% duty cycle, and the Warrior 500i gives 500 A at 60% and 400 A at 100%. Compare products under the same conditions.

Consumable parts by business line

The parts that work in the arc or the flame wear fastest. For welding torches these are contact tips, nozzles, diffusers and liners; for 1Torch plasma torches, electrodes and nozzles; for gas cutting, Victor tips and nozzles.

Each series has its own designations, so a consumable is chosen by the torch or cutter series and by the current, not by appearance. For a batch, state the quantity and duty: current, material and thickness for cutting, wire diameter for welding.

Cutting, gouging and the gas flame

The word cutter is also ambiguous. Cutmaster manual plasma, 1Torch torches and iSeries plasma belong to thermal cutting; CoolJet PRO and SmartJet gas torches are also thermal cutting, while Victor ST and HC hand and machine torches belong to gas equipment.

Gouging is a separate case: the Warrior 750i source is rated for CAC-A gouging up to 850 A and stays in welding equipment. Name the type of torch and the source so that the request lands on the right page at once.

Wire, electrodes and flux for the equipment

The consumable is chosen for the machine and the wire feeder. The RobustFeed PRO handles solid wire up to 2.0 mm and flux-cored wire up to 2.4 mm at 0.8–25 m/min, so state the diameter and type of wire together with the feeder model.

OK Flux is used for submerged arc welding and OK electrodes for manual metal arc welding. Name the grade and the process in the request, and look for the description of the consumables on the welding consumables page.

ESAB documents and product numbers

ESAB publishes manuals, parts lists and diagrams in its manufacturer documentation. The parts list of TXH TIG torches is in document 0460 031 990, and for the Origo Mig C280 PRO and C340 PRO semi-automatic machines there is a document numbered 10816 on esab.com.

Take the ESAB order number from the documentation and state it separately from your own stock code. If there is no number, the nameplate designation and a photo are enough.

How we handle a request

A specialist for the business line reads the request. We identify the product and version from the designation, ask for what is missing (supply, package contents, part number) and only then calculate the lead time and price.

If the business line was chosen wrongly, the request still arrives: we redirect it to the right line. Diagnostics and repair of units are discussed on request: describe the fault, the error code and the conditions of the failure.

Industries and applications

The light Rebel, Rogue and Renegade machines are used in repair and maintenance, agricultural equipment, auto body and installation work and welder training.

The industrial Warrior and Aristo machines are designed for shipyards, power generation and the fabrication of pressure vessels, wind towers and rail cars.

Tractors, columns and roller beds for submerged arc welding are used in shipyards and in the fabrication of wind towers, pipelines and pressure vessels. Combirex and Suprarex PRO plasma machines serve plate cutting in metalworking.

How to choose plasma by thickness

For manual cutting, look at the rated cut and the edge-start cut: Cutmaster 30+ gives 12 and 16 mm, 50+ gives 25 and 32 mm, and 70+ gives 30 and 38 mm. Cutmaster 60i–152 are rated 60–120 A with an edge-start cut of 38–50 mm.

For thick plate and serial cutting, iSeries mechanized plasma is used: the manufacturer states cutting up to 160 mm. State the thickness, material and the number of shifts per day in the request.

Conditions of confirmation

Availability, price, lead time, dealer status, certificates and compatibility are not stated in advance. The version, mains voltage and scope of supply are agreed for each specific item.
