MKS Instruments vacuum and gas flow instrumentation

Select vacuum instruments and gas flow controllers for an industrial process. Share the operating range, gas, interfaces and required assembly scope for an itemized equipment enquiry.

Baratron 626D absolute pressure transducers

MKS describes the 626D as an unheated capacitance manometer with an analog output and a D-sub connector. Selection starts with the complete code, full scale and vacuum fitting.

  • Family full scale options 0.1–1000 Torr
  • Analog output 0–10 VDC
  • Power supply ±15 VDC
  • 15-pin D-sub connector

Baratron 622D terminal block version

The unheated 622D measures absolute pressure and uses a terminal block. MKS assigns the 0.1 and 0.25 Torr options to the 626D only. Keep the electrical connection type explicit in a replacement request.

  • Full scale options 1–1000 Torr
  • Terminal block electrical connection
  • 0–10 VDC output and ±15 VDC power
  • Match the scale and fitting code

GE50A mass flow controllers

The GE50A controls gas flow. MKS states its full scale range as an N2 equivalent; the selected version determines the interface and seal. Send the process gas and line pressures with the part number.

  • Full scale range 5–50000 sccm, N2 equivalent
  • Analog or digital interface options
  • Normally open or normally closed valve options
  • Positive shut-off requires a separate isolation valve

GE300A high flow mass flow controllers

The GE300A is a high flow MFC. MKS performance values apply under specified test conditions. An enquiry must distinguish a regulating MFC from an MFM and identify the gas configuration.

  • Full scale range 150–300 slm, N2 equivalent
  • Control range 2–100% FS, subject to configuration
  • 1–2 s typical settling, >10% FS at 50 psi
  • Positive shut-off requires a separate isolation valve

Identify the installed instrument

Start with a clear photograph of the whole instrument in its installed location and a close view of its identification label. Keep every letter, digit, decimal point and suffix in the part number.

A connector photograph and a view of the vacuum or gas fitting help link the equipment list to the actual component.

State whether the enquiry concerns a complete instrument, a cable, a mating connector or another assembly. If the reference comes from a drawing, include the page, item position and revision. A photograph of the front face alone may leave the connection version unresolved.

Give separate line numbers to instruments that look alike. Link each line to its photographs, code and quantity. Preserve an uncertain character as uncertain rather than silently replacing it with a guessed value. This provides a useful starting point for technical clarification.

Define the pressure measurement task

Record the full scale and units exactly as shown on the label. State the process working range separately from the instrument’s rated scale. Include the cable identification, supply details and the controller that receives the measurement signal.

These inputs describe the system in which the proposed instrument must operate.

Distinguish absolute pressure, gauge pressure and differential pressure. A request for a vacuum sensor can refer to different measurement tasks. For a 622D or 626D replacement, identify the terminal block or connector and attach the wiring information for the installed version.

If the current reading is incorrect, describe the operating state, displayed message and recent maintenance. Such information helps identify the requested item; it does not establish a fault diagnosis.

Decisions about work on an operating plant belong to the responsible maintenance team using the equipment documentation.

Specify gas and valve function

For a flow controller, state the gas, mixture composition where relevant, flow range and reference units. Give inlet and outlet pressures as separate values. Include process contact material requirements and the plant’s intended method of isolating the gas line.

Make the required function explicit: measurement, regulation or isolation. The GE50A and GE300A documents describe flow controllers and require a separate positive shut-off valve where no flow is needed. A normally closed control valve must therefore not be treated as the line’s isolation device.

Keep the installed instrument’s gas calibration and configuration details in the replacement enquiry. A change of process gas is a separate selection condition and should be raised before the equipment scope is agreed.

Check the resulting technical proposal against the documentation and safety procedures of the particular system.

Check electrical and mechanical integration

List the controller, communication protocol, power supply and signal requirements for a new instrument. For a replacement, include the existing wiring diagram, connector photographs and previous item code. A physically similar connector does not establish an identical pin assignment or protocol.

State whether cable or controller configuration changes are acceptable. Where they are prohibited, describe that constraint explicitly. List mating connectors, cable length and port identification separately so the proposed equipment can be checked against the intended integration arrangement.

Record mounting dimensions, clearance for cable access and gas connection orientation. An annotated photograph is useful alongside a drawing. For an assembled module, name one governing diagram and its revision.

Instruments, cables and controllers should be assessed together even when they appear as separate quotation lines.

Write an itemized equipment scope

Separate the request into instruments, accessories and spare positions. Each line should identify the code, quantity, required function and relevant drawing or document. Explain which existing components will remain and need to operate with the new instrument.

For a spare, identify the installed assembly it supports. For a new line, attach a specification that defines ranges and interfaces. This makes it possible to compare proposals on the same equipment scope instead of relying on a shared model name alone.

Tie technical answers to the corresponding line number. When the list changes, issue a revised version and identify the affected lines. This is particularly useful where a project contains instruments for different gases or pressure scales.

Keep the installation boundary clear before the order is finalized.

Plan receipt and commissioning checks

Define receipt checks before placing an order. The initial list normally covers identification, quantity, accessories and conformity of connections to the agreed documents. Include the requirements of the plant’s metrology or process engineering team in a separate attachment.

On receipt, compare markings and accompanying records with the agreed line item. Check the individual codes of cables and accessories as well as the instrument body. Resolve a changed suffix before installation even when the enclosure resembles the previous unit.

Installation, process commissioning and maintenance should follow the manual for the exact version and the plant’s own procedures. A product family range does not replace acceptance of the selected device as part of the customer’s system.

Agree the required checks with the responsible engineer while defining the equipment request.

Prepare the delivery enquiry

SpareX works from an itemized technical request. Include the instrument list, a contact for clarification, the destination country and city, and the requested scope of accessories. State any project requirements for packing, equipment identification and receiving arrangements at the destination.

A request may cover one replacement item or several instruments for a process module. Keep complete codes and quantities on separate lines so that the technical proposal can be compared with your equipment schedule. State the required delivery date as a project input.

For an international project, identify the intended delivery basis and the party responsible for the next transport stage. Separate shipments for different destinations in the request.

The quotation can then define the equipment scope and delivery arrangement for each line without treating a general product description as a complete project specification.

Send a useful instrument request

Use the enquiry form to send the full code, task description and supporting files. Begin with the required instrument or assembly and its installed equipment position. Add quantity, process medium, pressure scale or flow range, and the required connection method.

Label photographs with the same line numbers as the equipment list.

For an unclear marking, provide several sharp photographs with different lighting. A previous equipment schedule or the relevant manual page can help resolve the reference. A typed code is useful alongside the photograph because a one-character reading error can be found during comparison.

For a new process, explain the measurement or regulation task and accepted interfaces. For a replacement, state mounting constraints and permitted changes. The contact supplied with the request should be able to clarify these inputs so that the technical discussion remains linked to a specific item.
