Select a Harmonic Drive gear unit or actuator for your machine using the load requirements, mounting drawing and complete ordering code.
Product families and selection inputs
A housed gear unit, an integrated component set and a complete actuator have different selection requirements. Choose the product group and describe the axis application.
CSG-2UH and CSF-2UH housed gear units
Choose a housed gear unit when the replacement scope includes the complete mechanical assembly. CSG-2UH combines a strain wave gear, housing, precision cross roller output bearing and output flange. CSG is the high torque family; CSF-2UH provides the standard torque alternative.
Send the full installed code, a drawing of the input connection and a photograph of the output flange. The CSG-2UH family includes reduction ratios from 30:1 to 160:1; the actual size and ratio must be checked together with the load requirements.
SHG-2UH and SHF-2UH hollow shaft gear units
A hollow shaft arrangement allows cables, tubes or another shaft to pass through the rotation axis. SHG-2UH integrates a housed gear mechanism with a cross roller output bearing and a load mounting flange. SHF-2UH is another hollow shaft family in the manufacturer’s range.
State the required clear bore, mounting position and external loads when requesting a unit. Include the routing of any cables and tubes in your drawing.
CSG-2A and CSF-2A component sets
Component sets are intended for integration into the machine structure. This category suits a built-in transmission or a new axis whose surrounding housing is designed separately. CSG-2A is a cup-type, high torque family, with reduction ratios from 50:1 to 160:1.
CSF-2A is the standard compact component set family. For a replacement enquiry, provide the full designation and the assembly drawing showing how the mechanism is supported.
CSD flat gear mechanisms
CSD products address installations with limited axial space. CSD-2A is a component set containing a circular spline, flexspline and wave generator. The manufacturer lists seven sizes with ratios from 50:1 to 100:1.
CSD-2UH is a housed gear unit, while CSD-2UF is a separate thin configuration with a hollow through bore. Start with the complete designation of the installed product and its mounting drawing.
FHA-C hollow shaft rotary actuators
FHA-C combines a precision strain wave gear, a matched brushless servo motor and an encoder in one actuator. Its central opening can carry cables or tubes through the rotation axis. For a replacement, send the full actuator code and the model of the connected servo drive.
The ordering code identifies the size, ratio, encoder and options. US250 and E250 are different incremental encoder configurations; brake and connector options also need to be preserved.
CSG-GH and CSF-GH servo mount gearheads
The GH configurations connect strain wave gearing to a separate servomotor. CSG-GH and CSF-GH belong to the Quick Connect range, with ratios from 50:1 to 160:1. Selection starts with the motor drawing: shaft diameter and length, pilot diameter, flange geometry and mounting holes.
Add the required output speed, torque and duty cycle. For an existing axis, include the motor designation as well as the gearhead designation.
HPG, HPGP and HPN planetary gearheads
Harmonic Planetary is a separate planetary transmission family. The servo mount range includes ratios from 3:1 to 50:1, with several straight and right angle configurations. HPGP is the high torque helical gear family.
Specify the product series, ratio, motor connection and permissible backlash in the enquiry. For an angle arrangement, add the orientation of the input and output shafts to the machine drawing.
HarmonicGrease maintenance materials
The HarmonicGrease range includes SK-1A, SK-2, SK-3, 4B No.2 and HFL-1. Selection depends on the gear model, size, temperature and maintenance instructions. The general manufacturer table assigns SK-1A and SK-3 to size 20 and larger, and SK-2 to size 17 and smaller.
Send the lubricant designation from the machine manual or a photograph of the existing container, together with the required package size and quantity. For planned maintenance on several machines, list each gear model separately.
Prepare the complete ordering code
Record the full nameplate code, including letters after the basic series and any special specification suffix. Add the machine model and the axis identification used in the maintenance documentation. If the marking is difficult to read, attach a clear photograph instead of guessing characters.
Distinguish between the size, reduction ratio and mechanical configuration in the request. For several items, use a separate line for each designation and quantity.
Mounting dimensions and installation space
Provide the pilot diameters, mounting-hole pattern, shaft dimensions and available axial length. A general assembly drawing shows which surrounding parts remain in place during replacement. Include the required hollow bore where cables or tubes pass through the axis.
If a motor adapter is part of the order, identify it as a separate item and attach the motor drawing.
Define the application and operating cycle
For a new axis, describe acceleration, steady motion, braking and dwell. Provide the required output torque and speed with units, the load inertia and the duration of the cycle. List external radial, axial and overturning loads separately from the transmitted torque.
Include the mounting position, the working temperature and the available installation space. When replacing a transmission after a performance problem, add the observed symptom and any measurements already taken by the maintenance team.
Specify positioning requirements
Separate backlash, positioning accuracy and repeatability in the specification. Describe the load and direction of measurement. For an axis that reverses frequently, include that condition in the duty cycle.
If the enquiry follows a loss of accuracy, attach the maintenance team’s existing measurement report.
Identify the spare part and supply scope
The wave generator, flexspline and circular spline are the basic elements of a strain wave mechanism. An enquiry for an internal part should also identify the complete reducer and the item number on its assembly drawing.
The output bearing and the wave generator bearing are different positions and should be described separately. For an actuator, identify whether the scope concerns the complete unit, an encoder-related item, a brake or a cable assembly.
Attach the relevant parts-list page and photographs of visible markings.
Check the quotation before ordering
Compare the proposed ordering code with the request line by line. Review the input and output drawings, mounting dimensions, package contents and required documents. For actuators, also check the encoder configuration, power supply, brake and connectors against the existing control system.
Where several axes use similar units, label each line with its installation position. Send any differences or open points as one consolidated list.
Provide the output torque, speed, duty cycle and installation drawing. Identify fixed mounting interfaces and any dimensions that can be changed during the project. For several axes, prepare separate specification lines and quantities. Attach the drive calculation if available, together with the motor designation and any required through-hole routing.
Spare parts and supply experience
Previously supplied: a Harmonic Drive reducer and lubricant. Previously quoted: an FHA-17C-50-US250-A actuator. A new order is checked against its own full specification. Identify each spare part by the installed assembly code and the marked item on its drawing, and list maintenance materials separately.
SpareX arranges selection and supply against an agreed specification. Official dealer status, stock availability and compatibility based only on a series name are not claimed; availability, origin, package contents, documents, price and delivery time are confirmed for the requested item.
