Portable instruments ELOTEST M2 V3, M3, M6, IS3

Portable eddy current instruments for on-site inspection. The ELOTEST M3 shows conductivity from 1 to 110 % IACS on a 5.7" display. The ELOTEST M6 has a 7" multi-touch screen, built-in C-scan and harmonic analysis. The ELOTEST IS3 covers 10 Hz to 12 MHz, is single-channel and rated IP54.

Inline systems ELOTEST PL650 and HST 3

Multi-channel systems for inline inspection. The ELOTEST PL650 R carries up to 16 measuring channels, the ELOTEST PL650 RC up to 4; up to 64 sensors connect to one channel, and OPC UA links the system to plant control. The mobile ELOTEST HST 3 combines up to 8 probes with 8 built-in sensors each and runs up to 20 hours on two batteries.

Rotors and inspection of bar, wire and rollers

Rotating rotors are installed in bar, wire and cylindrical roller inspection lines: miniature MR3, SMR4 and MR6, standard SR1, compact EC15 and the EC30–EC130 family. The Rotor EC15 compact runs at 3,000 rpm from a 24 V drive, covers material from 1.5 to 15 mm and detects defects from 20 µm; the EC30–EC130 family covers 5 to 130 mm.

Rails, switches and wheel rims

Rail applications: the ELORAIL WPG D340 trolley and the spring point inspection set are approved test equipment by DB Netz AG. The EC-Track-Scan system finds head checks and squats at speeds up to 20 km/h with 2 to 8 sensors per rail. The ELOWHEEL RPT 18 inspects wheel rims up to 800 mm in diameter.

Scanning and automated systems

Robotic and automated solutions for complex parts: ELOSCAN with sensor arrays and the ELOSCAN Compact for turbine wheels with probe changing. A separate system inspects cylindrical rollers with a rotating head (RDE), and another installation covers long products.

Sensors — the replaceable parts

The manufacturer calls sensors the "eyes" of the measuring system and offers them in hundreds of variants. Absolute KAS-31 and PLA-33, the differential KDS 2-2 in a shielded metal housing, miniature and rotary sensors, including types for bores from Ø 0.8 mm. Array sensors work through the MiniMux multiplexer with 64 channels, accepting up to 62 elements plus two reference elements.

Coils for wire, bar and tube inspection: feed-through coils with differential and absolute windings or differential only, encircling objects from 2 to 180 mm in diameter. Reference specimens for setting up and checking the measuring chain: aluminium, titanium, steel and austenitic TP 9–TP 12 with notches from 0.1 × 0.2 mm, the four-layer TP 1, the TP 31–TP 34 set and the TP200 specimen with reference holes for nine rotary sensors. The specimens come with a certificate or protocol.

Software for recording and evaluating eddy current data: ELOIMAGE for C-scans, the ELOIPM image processing module as an extension of SCANALYZER IS, support for the DICONDE format for exchanging results, and an OPC UA interface for linking to process control systems.

Technology: penetration depth and frequency

The method is a surface one: it measures the change in coil impedance. The standard depth of penetration δ is the drop of eddy currents to about 37 %: 36.8 % remains at 1δ, 5.1 % at 3δ and 0.7 % at 5δ. The manufacturer calls 3δ the effective depth — defects deeper than that are not reliably detected, and a wall thicker than 5δ counts as thick-walled.

Aerospace covers engine blades and wheel rims, automotive covers bar stock, turbine wheels, cracks and grinding burn, energy and steel covers long products, longitudinal weld seams of pipes and local hardening of plate, and rail covers rail defects and switch points.

Calibration, training and agencies

The manufacturer declares its own calibration loop: calibration to national and international standards and automatic calibration against reference specimens directly in the line. ET 1 and ET 2 training takes place at the Frankenthal site. Sales run through 29 partner organisations in 36 countries; there is no service partner in Russia, Belarus or Kazakhstan.

State the object and material, the diameter or thickness, the required inspection depth, the surface condition and the line speed. For bar and wire the diameter and the required sensitivity matter, for tubes the longitudinal weld seams, for rail the defect type and the working speed, and for replaceable parts the instrument model and the sensor designation.

The main replaceable parts are sensors, coils, rotating rotors and reference specimens. Sensors: absolute KAS-31 and PLA-33, differential KDS 2-2, miniature and rotary types, arrays through the 64-channel MiniMux multiplexer. Coils: feed-through and segment types for 2–180 mm diameters, sorting coils up to 270 mm. Specimens: TP 9–TP 12, TP 1, TP 31–TP 34, TP200. The manufacturer does not publish article numbers.
