Vibration analysis and dynamic rotor balancing on Warman slurry pumps
Centrifugal slurry pumps operating on heavy mill circuits experience severe continuous dynamic forces. Plant field technicians perform three-axis vibration measurements on bearing assemblies in compliance with ISO vibration standards.
Root-mean-square velocity and acceleration peak factors are monitored to detect early bearing raceway spalling and rolling element fatigue. When impeller vane wear causes rotor imbalance, on-site dynamic balancing is carried out without removing the complete pump assembly from the foundation.
This proactive vibration control prevents shaft fatigue fractures, protects bearing housing bores, and extends the operational life of heavy duty pump drives.
Throatbush axial clearance measurement and WRT hydraulic adjustment
During aggressive slurry pumping, the front clearance between the rotating impeller and the stationary throatbush increases due to sliding and impact abrasion. When this axial gap exceeds design limits, internal slurry recirculation intensifies, lowering total head and accelerating localized wear.
Technicians take micrometer gap readings across the suction face and adjust the WRT throatbush axially using the heavy duty adjustment studs on the pedestal frame.
Restoring a uniform operating clearance across the suction face recovers hydraulic efficiency, minimizes vortex scouring, and substantially lengthens wet end operating intervals.
Pressure testing protocol and diaphragm inspection on GEHO triplex pumps
GEHO TZPM triplex piston diaphragm pumps generate pipeline discharge pressures up to 300 bar, with durable pre-formed elastomer diaphragms isolating the hydraulic drive from abrasive tailings slurry.
Routine maintenance requires visual inspection of diaphragm surfaces for delamination, verification of acoustic leak detection sensors, and hydrostatic pressure testing of the diaphragm housings.
Technicians verify the seating surfaces of suction and discharge check valves, inspecting polyurethane inserts and hardened valve cones. Regular vacuum filling of the hydraulic drive eliminates air pockets and ensures 98% operational availability.
Wear profile inspection and replacement procedure for Linatex rubber liners
Warman WGR and MCR pumps equipped with Linatex natural rubber liners achieve exceptional wear performance in fine particle handling. Ultrasonic thickness testing is conducted across high-velocity impact regions, including the volute cutwater and suction liner throat areas.
When the remaining rubber thickness reaches allowable wear limits, the split body liners are replaced without disturbing the main discharge piping.
Replacement rubber liners are seated into the alignment grooves of the outer ductile iron housing and secured with torque-calibrated bolts to guarantee leak-tight sealing.
Drive shaft alignment and thermal monitoring of heavy bearing assemblies
Torque transmission from high-power electric motors to slurry pump shafts requires precise shaft alignment. Service specialists perform laser alignment across flexible drive couplings to precision tolerances, eliminating angular and parallel offsets that induce premature bearing failure.
Simultaneously, bearing operating temperatures are monitored using infrared thermography during continuous full-load production within design thermal specifications. Labyrinth seals and grease purge rings are inspected to prevent abrasive slurry ingress into the oil lubrication chamber.
Commissioning sequence, hydraulic verification and operating point calibration
Commissioning heavy slurry pump installations following major maintenance requires a structured testing sequence.
The procedure begins with uncoupled motor rotation verification, hydrostatic pressure testing of the assembled pump body, and gland seal water supply verification at the specified flow and pressure.
Once process slurry fills the sump, the pump is started at reduced speed using a variable frequency drive before ramping up to the design operating point.
Differential head, flow rate, and drive motor power draw are recorded to calibrate the actual pump performance curve against factory specifications.
