LaMOT Disc Products rupture disc assembly selection

SpareX sources rupture disc assemblies, holders and burst indication components against project requirements. We compare the disc family, connection and process conditions and quote replacement elements separately.

STD rupture discs

The manufacturer describes STD as a solid metal, prebulged rupture disc. Replacement selection starts with the disc tag and the configuration of the installed holder.

  • Solid metal construction
  • Prebulged disc geometry
  • Dedicated versions for compact assemblies

LD, LDV and LDV-G composite discs

LD combines a slotted metal section with a process-side seal. LDV adds vacuum support; LDV-G uses a flat seat. Keep the full family designation when defining a replacement.

  • LD: operating ratio up to 80% of marked burst pressure
  • LDV: process-side vacuum support
  • LDV-G: layered flat-seat construction

LPL and LPLV lined discs

LPL incorporates an outlet fluoropolymer liner. LPLV additionally withstands full vacuum. State the installed specification and seal material together with the process medium.

  • LPL: outlet fluoropolymer liner
  • LPLV: full-vacuum capability
  • Selection against tag and process data

IS flat isolation discs

Isolation Seal IS is a flat composite disc installed between standard-bore ASME class 150 bolted flanges. Provide the complete tag, connection data and purpose of the installed assembly.

  • Flat composite construction
  • ASME class 150 flange installation
  • Specify medium and full identification

Insert holders

The insert holder has inlet and outlet pieces forming the disc seating interface. We compare the holder or its requested components with drawings, tags and companion flange details.

  • 30° seat for the corresponding disc
  • ASME, DIN or JIS companion flanges
  • Identify both pieces of the assembly

BDI-FLX burst indication

BDI-FLX indicates rupture disc opening. Specify the sensor strip, connection and monitoring equipment separately, with the medium and opening behaviour included in the application data.

  • Interface to PLCs and control systems
  • Sensor strip and monitoring components
  • Separate assessment for liquid service

Define the assembly scope

For a new project, describe the protected equipment and where the rupture disc assembly will be installed. State whether the enquiry covers a disc and holder package, a replacement element or burst indication. Attach a diagram identifying the inlet, outlet and discharge connection.

Keep each requested item as a separate line so the package can be checked against the project list.

Name the technical contact responsible for approving the specification. If the documentation contains alternatives, identify the selected option and revision. We can then return a focused clarification list against the relevant items.

The final selection needs the approved equipment data and the customer technical team’s application assessment.

Identify the installed components

Photograph the entire disc tag and the holder identification plate. Include readable size, material, pressure and temperature markings where present, together with a view of the assembly from both sides. State the quantity and the item reference used in your equipment list.

Preserve every suffix in the family designation.

Attach the relevant pages of the equipment passport, earlier specification or packing list. Explain any differences between the documents and the installed tag. Transcribed information is useful alongside the photograph when the original units are retained.

This creates a traceable replacement enquiry without treating a similar-looking disc as an equivalent configuration.

Record pressure, temperature and medium

Separate the normal operating pressure from the disc’s marked burst pressure. Give the units and associated temperature for each value. Identify vacuum, back pressure, cyclic conditions and pulsation in the project data.

Provide the approved data sheet rather than deriving the specification from a photograph.

The manufacturer states an operating ratio of up to 80% of marked burst pressure for LD. That family characteristic is not a general vessel protection setting. The requested position still needs the full application conditions.

Include the medium and wetted-material information from the equipment documents, and list changes in process operation separately from the original disc specification.

Match the holder and seating interface

A nominal connection size does not define the complete assembly. Provide the holder designation, connection drawing, companion flange standard and inlet and outlet identification. The manufacturer describes a 30° seat for the Insert holder and companion flange options to ASME, DIN or JIS.

The flat-seat LDV-G configuration is a separate selection.

Explain whether the existing holder remains in service or a complete assembly is required. Mark an individually requested piece on the drawing and identify the accompanying components. Photographic dimensions can clarify a request but should be accompanied by the applicable engineering drawing.

Installation and maintenance remain subject to the equipment procedures and manufacturer instructions.

Specify burst indication separately

For BDI-FLX, define the sensor strip, cable connection and monitoring or control-system equipment within the package boundary. Attach the existing circuit diagram and identify the signal to be monitored. The manufacturer describes interfaces to PLCs, distributed control systems and alarm monitors.

In full liquid service, the sensor needs dynamic movement during disc opening. The manufacturer states that slow reversal from liquid thermal expansion, or a cracked disc, will not trigger the sensor. Include the opening event and process behaviour in the application review.

A burst indication signal and the pressure relief function are different parts of the equipment specification.

Prepare the project and receipt checklist

Separate discs, holders and indication components in the project bill of materials. Give the requested designation, quantity and accompanying-document list for each item. Identify new assemblies and replacements for installed equipment.

Keep the project tag references when several discharge locations are included in the same enquiry.

Before order confirmation, compare the proposed package contents with the approved specification. For an export project, identify the receiving location, documentation language and packaging requirements.

At receipt, compare tags and item references with the agreed list and record any packaging or identification concerns for the responsible technical team. Commissioning and maintenance follow the manufacturer documentation and the site procedures.
