Continental Disc Corporation rupture disc system selection
SpareX sources rupture disc assemblies for process equipment. We compare the product family, process connection, medium and project requirements, and quote replacement elements as separate line items.
HPX rupture discs
The manufacturer describes HPX as a reverse acting rupture disc for liquid or gas service. Selection starts with the tag, holder designation and the specified conditions associated with the burst rating.
- Nominal size 25–300 mm
- Burst pressure 0.689–138 barg
- Operating ratio 90 or 95%, depending on specification
- Flat seating configuration
APX for demanding media
The manufacturer developed APX for toxic and corrosive service. Include the medium composition and wetted material requirements in the enquiry, and specify the rupture disc and holder as an assembly.
- Nominal size 25–200 mm
- Burst pressure 0.689–41.37 barg
- Liquid or gas according to the ordered relief conditions
- Universal BDI or BDI-FLX compatibility
HPX-CTG welded cartridges
The manufacturer describes HPX-CTG as a welded rupture disc cartridge intended to reduce potential leak paths in chemical service. Provide the assembly designation, connection drawing and containment requirements.
- Welded assembly based on HPX technology
- Applications involving toxic or hazardous media
- Cartridge quoted as an assembly
- Dimensions checked against the assembly drawing
SANITRX HPX sanitary discs
The manufacturer developed SANITRX HPX for pharmaceutical, biotechnology, food and beverage applications. Identify the sanitary connection and the plant requirements for cleaning and process contact materials.
- Nominal size 25–80 mm
- Burst pressure 0.689–17.2 barg
- Liquid or gas service
- Sanitary ferrules, NovAseptic or SANITRX fittings
HPX-PT holders
According to the manufacturer, HPX-PT allows the disc to be fitted and torqued before the assembly is installed between process flanges. Identify both holder sections and the installed face-to-face dimension.
- Nominal size 25–300 mm
- Torque applied before installation in the piping
- Flat seating configuration
- Design varies with size and bolting class
BDI rupture indication
The manufacturer explains that a bursting disc severs the BDI alarm strip and opens an electrical circuit. An enquiry should distinguish the replacement strip, lead wire assembly and monitoring equipment.
- Indication through an open circuit
- Replaceable alarm strip
- Connection to plant warning equipment
- Designed for Continental Disc rupture discs
Reading the identification tag
Start with a clear photograph of the rupture disc tag and the holder markings. Include the family, size, burst rating, specified temperature and any drawing or item reference. A wider photograph should show where the assembly sits in the equipment. Transcribe only legible characters.
If markings are incomplete, attach an earlier specification. We compare these records and identify the missing information before proposing an item for your review.
Preparing an enquiry
List each item on a separate line with its quantity, unit and designation. Name attachments after the corresponding line number, and keep the tag and holder photographs together. Include a technical contact for process questions and a contact for the quotation.
A maintenance bill of materials is useful when purchasing works from an engineering list. Keeping the item references consistent lets your engineering and procurement teams review the same scope without losing the link to the equipment.
Medium and operating conditions
State the medium, composition and phase under the intended relief conditions. Describe normal operation separately from start-up, shutdown and cleaning. Identify any process changes since the installed disc was selected. For a new project, attach the designer’s equipment data sheet.
We carry those inputs into the sourcing enquiry and return the proposed scope for review. Relief capacity calculations and approval of the protection arrangement belong to the responsible project engineer.
Burst rating and temperature
Copy the marked burst pressure together with its units and specified temperature. Keep it separate from normal operating pressure, vessel design pressure and the set pressure of any adjacent valve. If documents disagree, send both and explain their purpose.
A catalogue range describes the product family rather than a complete order code. The quotation should identify the conditions for the proposed item, giving your engineer a defined specification to review.
Connections and holder identity
Identify the nominal size, flange standard and class, or the sanitary connection designation. Attach a drawing showing the seating dimensions and installed assembly height. Even when only a replacement disc is needed, the holder marking is part of the identification record.
For new assemblies, describe space restrictions and the intended fastener scope. A matching connection size alone does not establish the disc family, holder compatibility or wetted materials.
Materials and wetted components
Record the materials of the disc, holder and seals separately. For corrosive media, include concentration, contaminants and temperatures for the relevant process stages. Attach any plant material specification that governs the equipment.
We keep alloy designations linked to the corresponding quotation lines. Similar appearance is not evidence of matching materials. A proposed change of material should be presented to your engineer as a defined deviation rather than treated as an automatic replacement.
Hygienic equipment requirements
For sanitary equipment, identify the ferrule or fitting and the requirements for product contact surfaces. Describe cleaning, sterilisation and plant packaging requirements separately.
SANITRX HPX connections should be reviewed against the documents for that assembly, without carrying assumptions across from an industrial holder. Where the equipment has a validation package, attach its document checklist.
This allows the proposed scope to be reviewed with your quality team while sourcing is still being defined.
Indicator and electrical interface
Distinguish the alarm strip, lead wire assembly and monitor when requesting BDI items. Include connector photographs, the wiring diagram and the installed monitor designation. A replacement sensing element also needs the associated rupture disc assembly reference.
For a new project, provide the control system interface and any hazardous area requirements applicable to the location. The electrical scope should be agreed separately from the mechanical assembly and shown explicitly in the equipment list.
Defining a complete project assembly
Describe the boundaries of the required assembly for a new vessel or process skid. The enquiry may concern a disc and holder, a cartridge, or an assembly with indication and specified accessories. We separate these components into quotation lines for engineering review.
Submit the connection drawing, installation arrangement and document list together. Before ordering, technical deviations and excluded components are identified explicitly so that the agreed quotation can be compared with the project bill of materials.
Replacing an earlier installation
Start with the equipment archive and earlier order documents when identifying an installed assembly. Include drawing revisions and the most recent replacement record where available.
A proposed different execution needs a comparison of connections, medium, specified operating conditions and assembly scope. We list the differences for technical approval.
An identical nominal size in a catalogue is not confirmation of interchangeability between the installed item and a different product family or execution.
Documentation for the quotation
Provide the document checklist required by your technical and purchasing teams. Separate drawings, equipment data, instructions and material traceability requirements. State which records are required before ordering and which belong in the delivery package.
For an export project, identify the document language and project references. The proposed document scope is reviewed for each item, while the technical data remain linked to the exact execution described in the quotation.
Reviewing the proposal and receiving items
Compare every quotation line with the initial equipment list. Check the designation, quantity, connection execution and agreed attachments. Any stated technical deviation needs acceptance by the responsible plant engineer before an order is placed.
Keep the approved specification with photographs of the received assembly markings. This creates a consistent record for checking the delivered item against the ordered position and for preparing a future maintenance enquiry from the same equipment history.
Packing and item identification
State whether items need to be grouped by vessel, production line or maintenance kit. Retain your plant references in the agreed item list so that packing records can be matched to the equipment. Project requirements for protecting sensitive replacement elements should be included in the enquiry.
We agree the accompanying information and package identification before dispatch. Your receiving team can then allocate the items against a defined list rather than identify them again from appearance.
Delivery scope and project boundaries
SpareX handles enquiries for project equipment and individual replacement elements. Identify the destination country, delivery location, any requested split shipments and transport packing requirements.
Specify whether the enquiry covers the listed items alone or additional accessories in the bill of materials. Installation and modifications to the process arrangement are not automatically part of an equipment enquiry.
The agreed boundaries and item list are recorded in the quotation for purchasing, logistics and engineering to review together.
