Groth Corporation tank equipment selection

SpareX sources pressure and vacuum relief valves, emergency vents, flame arresters and blanket gas regulators for industrial storage tanks. We compare equipment with project data and quote replacement assemblies separately.

1200A pressure/vacuum relief valves

The manufacturer describes 1200A as a tank pressure and vacuum relief valve. For replacement assemblies, identify the valve tag, seating diaphragm material and both set points.

  • Size DN 50–300
  • Pressure and vacuum relief duties
  • Buna-N, fluoropolymer or FKM seating diaphragms
  • Body material selected for the process medium

1400 series pilot operated valves

The manufacturer specifies pilot adjustment for the 1400 series. Identify the main valve and pilot separately; vacuum relief is a model dependent function.

  • Adjustment at the pilot valve
  • Remote pressure sensing option
  • Modulating action according to configuration
  • 1400 and 1420 include vacuum relief

2000A emergency pressure relief valves

According to the manufacturer, 2000A adds emergency relief capacity beyond normal tank venting. Provide the required flow, set point and cover assembly identification.

  • Sizes DN 400, DN 500 and DN 600
  • Weight loaded cover
  • 2000A provides pressure relief only
  • Grounding cable between cover and flange

76E-AF and 76E-UF flame arresters

The manufacturer describes 76E as a flame propagation barrier for gas piping. Element selection requires the exact version, gas group and installation conditions as well as flange size.

  • Connections 2–12 inches
  • Temperature −20 to +60 °C
  • Gas groups IEC IIA and NEC D
  • 316 stainless steel flame element

7758A detonation flame arresters

The manufacturer lists 7758A for deflagration and detonation duties. Check the tag and applicable documentation for the required mode, and consider the element together with its housing.

  • Sizes from 2×4 to 12×30 inches
  • Vertical or horizontal installation
  • Temperature −20 to +60 °C
  • Detonation mode depends on configuration

3000 series blanket gas regulators

The manufacturer describes the 3000 series as an inert gas supply regulator for tank vapor spaces. Provide inlet and blanket pressures, required flow and the gas composition.

  • Single stage regulator
  • Spring loaded balanced piston
  • Adjustable flow orifice
  • Modulating opening with demand

Read the installed equipment tag

Start with a complete photograph of the nameplate and a close view of its designation. Include the model, serial number, connection size and set points with their units. Photograph additional tags if fitted. An overall view should show the equipment position on the tank.

This helps distinguish assemblies that look similar and associates a replacement with the correct installed item. Keep uncertain characters visible rather than reconstructing the code from memory.

Define the requested replacement scope

State the component name, quantity and item number on the assembly drawing. If a part code is unavailable, attach the relevant bill of materials and a dimensioned photograph of the removed assembly. Separate a complete valve from seals, a pilot or a flame element.

Explain which parts of the existing equipment will remain in service. This defines the interfaces that need checking and avoids quoting a housing when the actual requirement is a replaceable internal assembly.

Provide the tank design basis

For a new project, attach the tank data sheet, allowable working pressure and allowable vacuum. Identify normal filling and emptying conditions, operating temperature and stored product properties. These inputs describe the duty and support the project engineer’s sizing work.

For a retrofit, include the existing normal and emergency venting equipment. A nozzle arrangement drawing shows connection locations and clearances, allowing the proposed equipment package to be compared with the actual installation before the scope is agreed.

Separate normal and emergency flow cases

Normal tank breathing and emergency relief require separate design cases. State the required flow, stream composition, temperature and reference conditions used for volumetric quantities. Attach the project calculation for the emergency case.

When several flow units appear in the specification, retain the source document and label each value clearly. Set pressure and flow capacity are different inputs. A pressure shown on a nameplate does not by itself establish the venting capacity needed for a revised process.

Check body and soft component materials

List the body, seat, diaphragm and gasket materials separately. Medium composition, concentration, temperature and possible condensate affect the material selection for each component. If an earlier repair changed the assembly, attach the repair record alongside its current designation.

A general elastomer name may leave the grade or service conditions unresolved. The equipment data sheet and material schedule provide a clearer basis for the plant engineer to assess the proposed combination and identify any missing application information.

Verify connections and service space

Attach a flange drawing or identify the connection standard, size, drilling and facing. Include installed height, discharge direction and available maintenance space. For equipment connected to piping, show nearby bends and supports.

The housing outside diameter is not a reliable connection identifier. An overall installation photograph can reveal height and access restrictions that a close view of the removed component cannot show, so these conditions can be resolved before the equipment scope is finalized.

Identify the pilot and sensing arrangement

Record the main valve model and the separate pilot designation. Attach the tubing arrangement, sensing location and any connection to a discharge header. For a diaphragm or seal request, mark the component in the manual applicable to that pilot.

Similar family names do not establish that repair kits are interchangeable. If the operating duty is being changed, supply the revised conditions to the engineer responsible for system sizing and settings before selecting a replacement configuration.

Specify the flame arrester application

Identify the complete housing model, element marking, gas group and installation location. Describe the flame propagation duty and the conditions used in the project specification. Show temperature sensors and instrument connections where fitted.

A replacement element must be considered with the retained housing and fastening arrangement. Connection diameter alone cannot establish a different protection duty.

The responsible engineer should assess the applicable manual and process data when confirming the assembly for its intended position in the system.

Define the equipment package by function

A project schedule can list the normal vent, emergency relief valve, flame arrester and blanket gas regulator as separate items. Identify each item’s function, duty and connection. State which controls, seals and accessories belong in the requested package.

This gives procurement teams a consistent scope for comparing quotations and shows which part of the tank system each line covers. Keep the project requirements associated with their individual assemblies rather than applying one specification indiscriminately to the entire package.

Review the specification before ordering

Compare the item schedule with the source photographs and documents before confirming the order. Review the proposed designations, quantities, materials and kit contents individually. Gather unresolved technical fields into one question list for the customer’s engineering contact.

Retain the agreed specification with the initial request so receiving personnel can check markings and package contents against the same record. Installation, inspection and setting activities should then follow the applicable equipment documentation and the plant’s approved operating procedures.
