  • 1013 suffixes: EC/FC; 1015 suffixes: C/CP

Air-cooled 912 and 914 families

DEUTZ provides separate FL 912 generator-set and BFL 914 mobile-machinery data sheets. Identify the application before comparing a proposed engine with the installed unit.

  • FL 912: generator-set configurations
  • BFL 914: mobile machinery
  • State operating speed, power and machine model

Spare parts and maintenance items

Prepare parts enquiries around the installed engine. List the main component separately from seals, service consumables and any associated parts needed for the repair.

  • Oil, fuel and air filters
  • Pistons, liners, cylinder heads and injection parts
  • Turbochargers, pumps, starters and alternators
  • Belts, gaskets and repair kits

Shortblock and Longblock

The replacement scope depends on the engine condition and the components intended for reuse. Compare the included assemblies so the workshop can plan the remaining installation work.

  • Shortblock: core engine components
  • Longblock: an assembly including the cylinder head
  • Longblock Plus: additional auxiliary equipment

Identify the engine before selecting parts

Send the identification plate, complete engine number and machine model. Also record component markings: injectors, pumps and starters may carry another manufacturer’s reference. Identify any equipment changed during earlier repairs.

The official DEUTZ Service Portal supports parts lookup by engine number. If the plate is damaged, supply remaining identification marks, an earlier parts list or relevant manual pages. Keep letter suffixes and leading zeroes when transcribing references.

State each item’s quantity and repair purpose; label its photographs.

Specify a complete engine replacement

Identify the machine, its installed engine and the operating duty. Provide photographs from several sides, including mounting points, driven auxiliaries and major connections. List which components the workshop intends to transfer from the existing engine.

For a new installation, state the required power at operating speed, load profile, available space and site conditions. Include the mechanical interfaces, cooling arrangement, auxiliary drives and control requirements.

Compare quotations against one list covering the engine, auxiliaries, electrical equipment, exhaust system, documentation and packaging. Share it with the installation team.

Plan filters, belts and maintenance kits

Prepare the maintenance list for each engine separately. Include references for the installed oil, fuel and air filters, the number of elements and recorded operating hours. A photograph of the housing helps distinguish a replacement element from a complete filter assembly.

For a belt enquiry, retain its full marking and show the drive arrangement. List tensioners and rollers separately if they are included in the planned work.

Use the maintenance instructions for the actual engine configuration when planning service intervals. A list of scheduled operations and the number of services being prepared helps define the contents of a maintenance package.

Injection equipment and fuel-system enquiries

For injectors, provide the engine number, component markings and quantity. For a fuel pump, photograph the plate and connections. Attach the workshop’s diagnostic findings and its recommended replacement list where available.

For electronically controlled engines, fault codes and a description of the operating conditions help explain the request. Keep the identification evidence alongside the diagnostic information so that the proposed component can be traced to the installed equipment.

List seals, pipes and mounting hardware needed for the agreed repair as separate items. State which accessories must accompany a replacement assembly and which will remain on the machine.

Cooling and lubrication components

DEUTZ documentation includes air-cooled, oil-cooled and water-cooled engine families. Begin an enquiry for a pump, cooler or fan with the complete engine designation and number. For external cooling equipment, include the machine manufacturer’s identification details.

Photograph pump housings, drives and connections. For a heat exchanger, show the plate, mounting points and hose connections. When a component has already been removed, an overall photograph and the relevant installation dimensions are useful.

List associated gaskets separately, distinguishing engine parts from machine installation equipment.

Cylinder heads and rotating assemblies

For an overhaul, provide an inspection list showing which assemblies will be replaced and which will be refurbished. Attach the engine number, component markings and measurements recorded by the workshop. Organise the list by cylinder or assembly where useful.

Preserve the dimensional information specified for pistons, liners, rings and bearings. For a cylinder head, state the required assembly level and list associated gaskets, valve components and hardware.

If both a parts package and a preassembled block are being considered, request them as separate options. Compare the retained components and remaining workshop operations on the same basis.

Turbochargers and auxiliary equipment

A turbocharger enquiry should include its identification plate, the engine number and photographs of its connections. For a starter or alternator, provide the electrical data on the label, connector details and mounting arrangement.

Record the equipment actually installed, including any replacements made during previous repairs. State whether the request covers a single component or the associated installation parts.

List brackets, pipes, hoses and seals that the workshop intends to renew. When sourcing for several engines, keep their identification numbers separate so that differently configured auxiliaries are not merged into a single purchasing line.

Controls and emission configuration

For electronically controlled engines, record the control-unit details and the exhaust-treatment equipment fitted to the machine. A complete engine enquiry should also include the wiring diagram and photographs of the harness connectors.

Specify the required emission configuration and destination market separately. Maximum power figures in a family data sheet are selection references; the purchased engine’s characteristics belong in its agreed specification.

For a sensor or control-unit replacement, include the component marking, connection information and diagnostic findings. Identify the systems that must communicate with the replacement so that configuration and commissioning requirements can be discussed before installation.

Compare blocks and Xchange options

DEUTZ describes Xchange as factory remanufacturing involving disassembly, component inspection, replacement, assembly and testing. If this option is requested, identify it explicitly alongside the installed engine details and desired delivery scope.

When choosing between Shortblock and Longblock, list the serviceable components that the workshop plans to retain. Allocate the cylinder head, injection equipment, turbocharger, pumps and electrical auxiliaries clearly between the supplied assembly and reused equipment.

Use “supply” and “reuse” columns to compare equivalent equipment and workshop scope.

Separate mobile and generator-set duties

State whether the engine drives a mobile machine, a pumping unit or a generating set. For a generator application, include the set model, electrical frequency, engine operating speed and intended load duty.

Engine mechanical output and generator electrical output describe different parts of the installation. Preserve the units shown on their respective plates and provide both identification records. Include the coupling, flywheel and housing interfaces when preparing a replacement.

For mobile machinery, describe the driven mechanisms and connected equipment for the installation team.

Prepare an equipment-fleet enquiry

For multiple machines, use a table containing the machine identifier, complete engine designation, engine number and requested items. Each line should show a part reference, quantity and unit; keep complete kits separate from individual components.

Label photographs with the same line numbers. Distinguish equipment stopped for repair from planned maintenance stock so that the enquiry can be organised around the actual operating need.

For repeat orders, attach the previous specification and changes. Record superseded references alongside replacements and their supporting document.

Agree delivery scope and receiving checks

Before procurement, agree the engine or component designation, quantity, delivery scope and accompanying documents. An assembly packing list should distinguish the principal unit from installation accessories.

At receipt, compare the markings and quantities with the agreed specification and retain photographs of the packaging and plates. For a complete engine, review the included equipment before handing it to the installation contractor.

Plan installation and initial setup using the engine and machine manufacturers’ instructions. Include the documentation needed by the workshop in the enquiry: interface information, maintenance instructions and available records for the selected configuration.

Availability, price, lead time, documentation and compatibility are assessed for the individual enquiry. This page does not establish authorised-dealer or service status or availability of every configuration. The offer defines the agreed scope and conditions.
