BTU RecuDry belt dryers with heat recovery
The RecuDry system divides conventional drying into two zones, recovering latent heat to achieve energy saving of 35 – 55%, depending on the drying surface area used. An air-to-air heat exchanger transfers thermal energy to incoming fresh air, reducing emissions and operating costs.
- Energy saving of 35 to 55 percent
- Two-zone circulation and condensation design
- Air-to-air heat recovery exchanger module
- Low exhaust airflow volume and emission profile

Energy-efficient biomass drying with RecuDry heat recovery
BTU RecuDry belt dryers are engineered for continuous low-temperature preparation of wood chips and sawdust prior to pelletizing. The technology divides drying into a recu module and condensation module, yielding thermal energy savings between 35 and 55% depending on drying area.
In the recu loop, circulating air reaches optimum saturation before passing to condensation, where an air-to-air heat exchanger extracts latent vapor heat to preheat incoming fresh air.
Stationary AgroDry drying systems with Bi-turbo airflow
The innovative air flow provided by Stela Bi-turbo technology reduces the amount of hot air required and therefore cuts the specific energy consumption in comparison to conventional systems with active heat recovery by up to 35%. Tower systems range from 60 cubic metres.
Dual independent airflow stages optimize heat transfer across drying columns. Indirect air heaters with thermal efficiency ratings above 91% eliminate contamination of grains, maize or oilseeds by combustion gases.
Mobile continuous dryers of the UNI agricultural series
Autonomous mobile drying units UNI 12, UNI 18 and UNI 30 provide flexible post-harvest grain conditioning for farming operations and regional elevators. The equipment is mounted on robust transport trailer running gear.
With throughput capacities reaching 11 t/h on wheat when reducing moisture from 19% to 15%, UNI dryers feature integrated heating blowers and compact modular packaging for rapid deployment.
Uniform material descent with STELA-Pneuma discharge plough
Uniform product discharge over the entire dryer base area with STELA-Pneuma discharge plough ensures continuous material descent across the drying tower cross-section. Pneumatically actuated oscillating profiles meter granular layers gently.
Even downward movement across the entire cross-section maintains consistent moisture levels between columns while preventing kernel damage.
Switchboards, automation and telemetry by STELA Steuerungstechnik
STELA Steuerungstechnik GmbH & Co. KG provides broad portfolio of electrical engineering, automation technology, process visualisation, switchboard construction and electrical MSR installation from our own production for drying systems.
Built around industrial Siemens PLC platforms and touchscreen HMI panels, the automation system adjusts conveyor speed from pulse probe moisture measurements. Telemetric interfaces facilitate real-time monitoring.
Process parameter calculation for moisture and layer thickness
Optimal throughput of STELA drying plants depends on raw material physical properties including bulk density, initial moisture and granule size. Engineering calculations determine bed depth between 50 and 250 mm on the belt.
For wood chips and sawdust, heating fluid temperatures are maintained between 70 and 105 °C to prevent volatile resin release. Airflow velocity of 0.5 to 1.2 m/s through belt perforations guarantees uniform cross-flow through the bed.
Safety monitoring and automatic deluge suppression systems
When drying combustible organic materials such as sawdust, peat and agricultural residues, dedicated safety circuits safeguard continuous plant operation. STELA installations integrate high-speed optical infrared spark sensors.
Upon detecting hot particles, programmable automation triggers micro-mist water deluge nozzles to suppress ignition hazards. Drying chambers include explosion relief panels and airflow sensors.
Industrial reference at Johann Pabst Holzindustrie in Austria
The stela BTU RecuDry belt dryer has been in operation at Johann Pabst Holzindustrie in Zeltweg since the beginning of autumn. With an output capacity of 9 t/h, the unit expanded pelletizing operations with modular extension potential from 38 to 60 metres, increasing throughput to 15 t/h.
In addition to installing the belt dryer, the manufacturer was responsible for the entire automation and electrification of the pelletising process.
