Tsinghua Tongfang servers

SpareX reviews K640 and K820 server platforms for storage and computing projects. Share the workload, required configuration, infrastructure interfaces and component list.

K820 rack servers

K820 is a 2U server platform with four Kunpeng 920 processors. Select the system around the workload, memory layout and storage configuration. Record the complete machine configuration before requesting an assembly or replacement module.

  • 2U rack server platform
  • Four Kunpeng 920 processors
  • State the complete machine configuration

K640 storage servers

K640 is a 4U storage server with two Kunpeng 920 processors. Define the storage task and drive configuration before selecting a system. For an existing machine, identify the chassis, backplane, carrier and controller separately.

  • 4U storage server platform
  • Two Kunpeng 920 processors
  • Identify the installed drive configuration

Server memory configuration

The K820 specification lists DDR4 ECC RDIMM memory and up to 32 modules. Specify the required memory configuration together with the server. For expansion, include the labels of installed modules and the current slot population.

  • K820 specifies DDR4 ECC RDIMM
  • Up to 32 modules in the K820 specification
  • Include installed module labels and slot layout

Drives, carriers and backplanes

The K820 catalogue includes a 25-bay 2.5-inch SAS/SATA configuration. K640 is described with up to 40 3.5-inch drives and four NVMe SSDs. Specify drives, carriers and backplanes as separate items in the equipment list.

  • K820: 25-bay 2.5-inch SAS/SATA option
  • K640: up to 40 3.5-inch drives and four NVMe SSDs
  • List drives, carriers and backplanes separately

Start with the application and system role

Describe the applications that the server will run and the role it will play in your infrastructure. An equipment request should explain whether the system is intended for computing, storage or a defined application supplied by your engineering team.

Include the project specification when a particular platform has already been selected. For a repeat configuration, send the complete machine code and an equipment list.

SpareX treats a complete server and a replacement assembly as separate purchasing items. A system request establishes the configuration of the machine. A component request identifies the installed assembly and its required replacement.

Give each configuration its own list rather than grouping different systems under the Tongfang name.

Define the supplied equipment list

List the chassis, computing platform, memory, storage, network interfaces and power modules as part of one configuration. State which items belong in the supplied package and which are already available at the destination. Keep complete manufacturer designations next to translated descriptions.

For a repeat installation, an existing equipment record and photographs of accessible labels help define the request.

The agreed equipment list should make the difference between a configured machine and a set of loose modules clear. Record accessories as individual items. When a component changes during discussion, update its line so the customer's technical team can review the complete configuration.

Memory planning and expansion

Specify the required memory configuration alongside the selected server platform and application. For an installed system, provide module labels and the current slot population. A total capacity alone does not describe the installed hardware.

Keep replacement of a module separate from a proposal to expand the system. Your technical team can supply the relevant requirements without sending application data.

If the project has more than one stage, distinguish the initial equipment list from a later expansion. Review each proposed configuration on its own terms. This produces a clear list for purchasing and incoming inspection rather than an assumption about which modules will be included in the machine.

Storage hardware and drive assemblies

Explain the intended storage task, such as application data, archive capacity or a defined backup system. Include the required drive arrangement and infrastructure interfaces. For equipment already in service, provide the controller designation, backplane identification and carrier details.

These records should come from the specialist responsible for the customer's server hardware.

A drive, carrier, adapter and cable are separate items. State which items should be included in the requested assembly. Data migration and software configuration belong to a separately defined project scope.

Hardware enquiries need equipment identification, rather than the customer's files, access credentials or contents of the installed drives.

Installation space and infrastructure

Provide the requirements for rack installation, available space and the infrastructure at the destination. When repeating an existing setup, include the chassis model and installed power module labels. Review electrical connections and cooling against the documentation for the selected machine.

Information for a different server should be kept separate from that equipment record.

List any mounting and connection accessories required by your project. An explicit accessory list helps the purchasing team distinguish the server package from items that must be prepared at the site.

It also gives the installation team a clear description of the delivered equipment before the shipment arrives.

Components for an installed Tongfang system

A replacement request should include the machine nameplate, assembly code and a photograph of the connection area. State whether the aim is to replace the installed item or change the configuration. List the system board, backplane, power module and memory separately.

A short name or similar appearance does not define the required hardware assembly.

Link every photograph to its corresponding line in the enquiry. If a label is partly unreadable, supply the original image and identify the characters that remain visible.

The customer's engineer can then compare the proposed item with the documentation for the machine before the equipment list is agreed.

Documentation and technical agreement

Attach a project specification, installed equipment list or relevant manual pages. Keep the model and section number visible when sending a Chinese document. Use translated descriptions beside the original codes rather than replacing them.

For several machines, provide separate configuration sheets or clearly identify the differences between the systems.

Record the final configuration, quantities and required accompanying documents after the technical discussion. Requirements determined by the customer's infrastructure should be confirmed by its technical team.

This creates a usable reference for incoming inspection and for later maintenance, with each component connected to a specific equipment configuration.

Purchasing and shipment requirements

Include the destination country and city, the project equipment list and packaging requirements. When machines or modules are intended for different sites, provide the required package identification. Discuss receiving documents together with the configuration.

Each supplied unit should have a clear description of its contents and its place in the project.

Refer questions about a configuration to the relevant line in the proposal. Complete systems and replacement modules can be discussed in one enquiry while remaining separate items in the equipment list.

This helps the purchasing and receiving teams check the package against the agreed configuration without interpreting an informal equipment name.
