Workholding for metalworking

BISON chucks and machine tooling

Request BISON-BIAL chucks, vises and tooling for your workpiece and machine interface. For replacement components, send the assembly marking, photographs and quantities.

Chucks, workholding and accessories

Choose the relevant product group and attach your machine information. The card button adds the selected assembly to your enquiry.

Self-centering chucks

Select a manual self-centering chuck around the workpiece and the machine spindle. BISON lists different jaw constructions, mounting arrangements and body materials, so a diameter alone is not a complete specification.

For a replacement, send the full marking of the installed chuck and photographs of its front and rear. For a new installation, add the machine model, workpiece drawing and intended operation. State whether you need a complete assembly or individual replacement components.

Keep all letters and suffixes when copying an existing designation into your enquiry. 3205-5″: three hard two-piece jaws, cast-iron body and DIN 6350 mounting. These details describe this particular version.

Independent-jaw chucks

Independent-jaw chucks belong to a separate BISON product group. Consider this construction when the setup requires individual jaw positioning rather than a single self-centering movement. Include a workpiece sketch and identify the locating surface in your enquiry.

For a replacement component, mark its position on a photograph of the assembly. Record the jaw count, chuck diameter, mounting arrangement and complete product designation. Photographs of the remaining jaws can help explain the requested configuration when one component is damaged or missing.

Separate the request for an assembly from the request for its parts.

Fine-adjustment chucks

BISON lists fine-adjustment chucks separately from conventional self-centering versions. Define the workholding requirement and the locating arrangement before selecting a replacement. Send the workpiece drawing, machine designation and details of the existing spindle interface.

State whether the adapter and current jaws are intended to remain in use. If the enquiry follows a runout problem, describe the measurement location and the part held during the check.

These observations help define the request; they do not replace an inspection of the machine and chuck by the person responsible for maintenance. 3565-5″: three hard two-piece jaws, steel body, front mounting and fine adjustment. Identify any components to be retained.

Power chucks and cylinders

Power chucks and hydraulic cylinders form a distinct BISON workholding category. Specify how the chuck connects to the clamping drive as well as its size. Include the existing chuck and cylinder designations, drawtube connection details and relevant machine documentation.

Identify the components that will remain when only one part is being replaced. For a new setup, describe the workpiece, loading method and required passage through the spindle.

List the chuck, cylinder, jaws and connecting components as separate enquiry items so the proposed scope can be checked against the actual installation. 2305-200-45 has three jaws, quick jaw change and a through-hole. 2405-160-45K specifies soft two-piece jaws and DIN 6353 mounting.

Chuck jaws and replaceable gripping parts

Order jaws against the specific chuck model and construction. The BISON spare-parts catalogue distinguishes applications by chuck family, which is useful when matching an existing assembly. Provide a general photograph of the jaw, its underside and any markings.

Specify whether the request is for a complete set or a numbered component in a parts list. For a two-piece arrangement, show the top and base jaws, their joint and the fasteners. If a new workpiece is involved, include its drawing and identify the gripping surface.

Copy all available numbers rather than sending only the brand name.

Collet chucks

Collet chucks are listed as a separate category in the official BISON catalogue. Describe the shape and size of the gripping section, the loading method and the machine interface. For an existing installation, provide both the chuck designation and the marking on the fitted collet.

Add photographs of the front, body and mounting area. If the request covers several workpiece sizes, list them separately with quantities.

A previous purchase specification is useful for a repeat enquiry, but check it against the assembly currently installed rather than assuming the configuration has remained unchanged. 9316-42 is a manual stationary collet chuck with a steel body, collet size 42 and no through-hole.

Machine and precision vises

BISON offers machine and precision vises alongside other vise types. Describe the operation, workpiece envelope and available table space when requesting equipment for a workstation. State the jaw opening, jaw width and mounting method required by your application.

For maintenance, send the vise designation, a photograph and the relevant parts-list page. List replacement jaws, fasteners or other requested items separately.

If a swivel base is part of the intended installation, include its details so the enquiry clearly distinguishes a complete assembly from a vise supplied for use with an existing base.

Milling fixtures and VDI holders

Milling fixtures and VDI toolholders are separate BISON product groups. Start a holder enquiry with the turret designation and the cutting tool that must be mounted. For a fixture, provide the proposed table arrangement and the workpiece drawing.

Distinguish components already available at the workshop from those required in the new package. Mark a replacement item on an assembly drawing where possible.

The machine name provides context, while the tooling designation and connection dimensions define the actual interface to be reviewed for the purchasing specification.

Scroll plates, pinions and screws

The official BISON spare-parts section includes scroll plates, pinions and operating screws. Use the assembly-drawing item number together with the chuck model in your request. A photograph of a worn component helps explain the construction but should be accompanied by any available identifiers.

Keep a record of each component’s location during maintenance. Where several mating parts are involved, include them in one list. This gives the enquiry a defined repair scope instead of limiting it to the name of the first visibly damaged part.

Adapter plates and mounting parts

An adapter connects the selected chuck to the machine interface, and BISON lists adapter plates in its spare-parts range. Provide information for both sides of the connection: the chuck and the spindle. State whether the current adapter will be retained or replaced.

If markings are unavailable, prepare a dimensioned sketch showing the mounting holes and locating surfaces. Record units and identify where each measurement was taken.

List any required mounting fasteners separately, allowing the quotation to distinguish the principal component from the installation hardware requested with it.

Wrenches, sleeves and fasteners

BISON accessories include wrenches, sleeves and fasteners. Link even a small replacement item to its chuck model rather than selecting it by appearance alone. Provide the designation, parts-list position and quantity.

For a wrench, photograph the engagement point and the existing example if available. For a fastener, include the catalogue reference or the relevant assembly drawing. When purchasing maintenance items for several machines, group the list by chuck and state the number of sets.

This makes both purchasing review and distribution to the workshop easier to manage.

Identifying an installed assembly

Start identification with the marking on the chuck body. Take a readable photograph without glare and a separate overall view of the assembly. Add a numbered list of required items and mark their locations in the picture.

If a manual is available, include the model identification page and the relevant assembly drawing. For a repeat purchase, explain any changes made to the installation since the earlier order. Clearly distinguish markings read from the part from assumptions based on appearance.

This provides a practical starting point for a specification that can be checked before ordering.

Documents and sources

Planning a machine installation

For a new installation, provide the machine model, spindle-interface drawing and workpiece drawing. Explain the machining operation and the surfaces used for location. List components already available at the workstation, such as an adapter, clamping drive, jaws, bases and mounting hardware. Keep the purchasing list separate from the list of retained components. Where several machines are involved, label their drawings and photographs separately even if the installations look similar. This creates a clear connection between each requested item and its intended location.

Maintenance parts and repeat enquiries

For an existing assembly, send the full body marking and the component numbers from its documentation. Include readable identification photographs, an overall view and close-ups of the required parts. A previous specification helps with repeat purchasing, especially when accompanied by a description of changes made since that order. State quantities of individual parts and complete sets separately. If a number cannot be read, flag that item and supply a dimensioned sketch. Keep an unidentified position open for clarification instead of replacing its designation with a guess.

Discuss your BISON requirement

Send the equipment and parts list, quantities and delivery destination. Availability, price, lead time, origin, package contents and documents are agreed for the specific items; official partner status and compatibility are not asserted without verification. Compare the complete designations and the contents of each set when reviewing the resulting proposal.
