Aberlink coordinate measuring machines

Aberlink Ltd (UK) builds CMMs: tabletop manual Fulcrum and Measur3D, delta Extol, bridge Axiom, Axiom too, Halo, Horizon, Azimuth, Zenith 3, and Project X vision. The range runs from tabletop machines to CMMs handling parts over 3 metres long and up to 6 tonnes, and Aberlink 3D software comes with every machine. We match the machine variant and fixturing to the part and tolerance, along with spare parts, service and retrofits.

Aberlink equipment areas

The machine ranges, software and service as the manufacturer documents them: from tabletop manual models to bridge CMMs for large parts and the Project X vision system. Technical data comes from the official factory pages.

Axiom and Axiom too

A bridge CMM for small and medium parts and the manufacturer's highest-volume range; the Axiom too has been built since 2004. Travel is X 640, Y 600–1200, Z 500 mm, in manual or CNC form, with a honeycomb aluminium and granite table or solid granite, rated 300 and 500 kg.

Extol — shop-floor delta CMM

A shop-floor machine on a delta mechanism, the first CMM of its kind; it won a King's Award for Enterprise for Innovation in 2024. Measuring volume is 370 and 520 mm in XY, Z travel 270 and 300 mm, table 200 kg, no compressed air needed; five temperature sensors watch the machine and the shop air.

Halo and Horizon — medium and large parts

Two bridge machines for medium and large parts. The Halo uses a belt drive and the Horizon structure: solid granite table 1000 kg, Y travel 1000 or 1600 mm (Halo L: 1200 or 2000 mm). The Horizon has linear drives with no wearing parts, accuracy from 1.5 µm + L/350 with SP25M, speeds to 1000 mm/s.

Azimuth — large parts

The largest machine in the range: X 1200, Y 2000 or 3000, Z 1000 mm, with an overall Y footprint of up to 4 metres. The bridge uses aluminium honeycomb panels and a separate load plate passes up to 6,000 kg into the floor; scale resolution is 0.1 µm, accuracy from 2.6 µm + L/250 with the SP25M.

Zenith 3

A large-part machine at a more accessible price: X 1000, Y 1000–3000, Z 600 or 800 mm, a 1500 kg table as standard with options to 4400 kg. The right leg follows the larger Azimuth and the wider air-bearing separation improves the first-term error by over a micron; air consumption 50 l/min at 5 bar.

Manual Fulcrum and Measur3D

Tabletop manual machines for inspection at the machine tool: a 280 × 280 × 150 mm measuring volume in a 335 × 830 × 725 mm body, single-phase power and no compressed air. Accuracy is 5.0 µm + L/1000 with 1.15 µrad scale resolution, measuring by touch or continuous scanning.

Project X — vision measurement system

A vision system that replaces the profile projector: a camera on a patented XY scale glides above a glass table on an air bearing while the part stays still and needs no clamping. Travel is 400 × 300 × 125 mm, 2D accuracy 7.5 µm, parts up to 3 kg and optical scanning to 5,000 points per second.

PolyWorks Inspector

A second software option for CNC machines: offline simulation, automatic path planning, collision analysis, AS9102 and PPAP reports, SPC, Gauge R&R and colour deviation maps. It supports Kreon Zephyr III laser scanning at 5, 14 and 26 µm accuracy.

Whether laser scanning, AS9102 or PPAP reports and offline programming are needed.

Fixturing and accessories

Accessories change what a machine can do: a camera with a telecentric lens and a 9.5–125 mm field of view, collimated through-light, a modular fixture kit of 60+ parts with M6 holes on a 30 mm pitch, industrial and touch-screen joysticks, temperature compensation, an air dryer and a care kit.

What the machine lacks: non-contact measurement, lighting, fixturing, consumables.

Retrofits for third-party CMMs and arms

Retrofits for machines of other makes: Aberlink 3D and new controllers are fitted to CMMs from Coord3, Ferranti, ITP, Kemco, Metris, LK, Mitutoyo, Tesa, Zeiss and Wenzel, and to Faro, Romer, Cimcore and Kreon arms. The kit includes installation, an on-site verification test and training.

Service and calibration

Calibration uses reference artefacts traceable to UKAS; accredited calibration to ISO 10360-2:2009 and ISO 10360-5:2020 comes via partner CHE Metrology (ISO 17025). The machines are in the Russian register of approved instruments under No. 86960-22, covering the Extol and Horizon modifications.

Training and measurement services

The manufacturer's measurement services: contract inspection of parts, writing and maintaining a library of inspection programs, and training for operators and programmers at all levels. A course for up to four people is included with every machine, and remote engineer support is available.

What is needed to select a machine

Three things drive the selection. The part: size, weight, material, rigidity, thin walls, deep holes. The task: the tolerance to be proven, the point count and whether form (roundness, straightness) matters or dimensions alone will do. The conditions: shop floor or inspection room, temperature and how fast it changes, compressed air, floor space and lifting. Attach a drawing or CAD model and say whether inspection happens at the machine tool: together they show whether a touch probe, an SP25M scanning system or a camera fits and whether the axis travels are sufficient. If data is still thin, send at least the part type and tolerance and we will clarify the rest.

Spare parts and service

We source probing systems and styli, change racks, fixturing, cameras, lighting, joysticks, temperature sensors, air dryers, consumables, controllers and licences. Retrofits: Aberlink 3D goes onto other CMMs and arms. Service: calibration and verification, preventive maintenance, relocation, upgrades and call-outs. Machine upgrades are quoted separately: camera, collimated lighting, temperature compensation and a motorised head with a stylus change rack. No parts catalogue with part numbers or prices is published; we select by assembly and system designation.
