KUKA Systems for production and assembly lines

Discuss KUKA Systems equipment for body production, welding, batteries and assembly around the technical requirements of your project.

Body-in-white production systems

KUKA describes fully automated and semi-automated body production. Define the workpiece flow and station scope for equipment; identify the project and drawing position for a replacement.

  • Automated and semi-automated production.
  • Specify the line and station reference.
  • Link each part to its drawing position.

Battery production and assembly

The manufacturer describes automation from individual cells to complete battery pack assembly. Identify the product level, operation and station before defining a system or replacement component.

  • From individual cells to complete battery packs.
  • Define the product and operation.
  • Include the station equipment list.

arc_cellerate arc welding cells

KUKA presents arc_cellerate as a standard arc welding cell. Describe the workpiece and joining operation; identify each peripheral manufacturer for component enquiries.

  • arc_cellerate is an arc welding cell.
  • Define material and joint requirements.
  • List the welding source and tooling separately.

Powertrain assembly systems

KUKA lists final assembly of engines, e-drivelines and transmissions within Systems. Define the assembly sequence and the specific project before selecting line equipment or components.

  • Engine and e-driveline assembly.
  • Transmission assembly is identified separately.
  • Provide project, station and unit references.

Start with the product and operation sequence

Describe the product, its incoming condition and the required output of the production area. Include the operation sequence and how parts enter and leave each station. For body production, identify the assemblies and joining tasks. For batteries, distinguish the cell, module and pack.

For powertrain assembly, state the relevant stage. These inputs give equipment selection a defined purpose within the overall manufacturing process.

State the target cycle, output volume and product change requirements. Separate confirmed input data from requirements that remain open. Identify automatic operations and stages where an operator is involved.

A process diagram with clear inputs and outputs helps the customer, equipment suppliers and responsible integrator agree the boundary of the proposed system.

Layout, workstations and equipment boundary

The area plan should show equipment, transport routes, maintenance access and product transfer points. For an existing factory, submit the actual arrangement, access openings and handling constraints. For a new project, identify links with neighbouring operations.

Consider tooling, material supply and operator activity alongside the space occupied by the main machines.

Distinguish the requested set from equipment retained by the customer. List robots, welding sources, transfer equipment, cabinets and tooling separately. Each independent item may have its own manufacturer and documents.

Organising the specification by workstation keeps both the complete system and its component assemblies identifiable throughout technical discussions and purchasing.

Choose the process configuration for the project

KUKA describes automated and semi-automated body production. Its battery production description covers individual cells through complete pack assembly. The manufacturer presents arc_cellerate as a standard arc welding cell.

These business areas provide a starting point; the actual configuration must correspond to the product, process and agreed equipment boundary.

For welding, provide material, joint geometry and weld locations. A laser welding or friction welding enquiry needs a process brief for that joining method; an arc welding cell description does not define it. For assembly, state the operation sequence, inspection requirements and data exchange.

Link final equipment parameters to a specified station and its project documents.

Controls, interfaces and technical documents

Identify the systems that exchange signals, the data involved and the party responsible for preparing it. Equipment added to an existing factory needs information about the installed controls and interfaces. Include electrical drawings, a signal list and document language requirements.

If several contractors are involved, assign an owner to each interface.

Agree the document set alongside the equipment list. Drawings, instructions, specifications and project inputs must refer to the selected configuration. Software changes and commissioning procedures are discussed with the responsible integrator.

Separate equipment from engineering, installation and training in the enquiry so that the scope and responsibility for each item can be confirmed explicitly.

Confirm the set and acceptance criteria

For each station, record the equipment designation, quantity, accessories and observable process result. Identify the workpieces or samples used for verification. Throughput and quality requirements should refer to a defined product and operating mode.

Establish who confirms technical inputs, who receives the equipment and who is responsible for the production area after installation.

Keep one specification version for comparing the proposal and placing the order. Record affected stations and documents when the project changes. This list links the original requirements with equipment and services supplied by each participant.

Acceptance points for one station should remain tied to its configuration rather than being assumed to apply to every part of the line.

Components for an installed KUKA Systems line

For a replacement, submit the line plate, project number and station reference. Include the component label, drawing position and quantity. Project-specific mechanical assemblies need the approved drawing; electrical items need the circuit reference and connection details.

Clarify whether you need a separate part or an assembly with accessories.

The line name does not establish the manufacturer of every component. A robot, sensor, welding source and fixture can carry different references and documents. Allocate the purchase list to workstations and attach the service diagnosis separately.

For a new project, keep spare items in an identifiable section linked to the equipment to be installed at the customer site.

Arrange export shipment and equipment receipt

State the destination country and city, delivery terms and receiving organisation. For a multi-station set, discuss the packing list, package identification and required receiving sequence.

Main assemblies and peripherals may go to different factory teams, so define their allocation to stations before shipment. Provide handling requirements with the technical inputs.

SpareX connects equipment enquiries with the agreed project specification. Confirm quantities and accessories before ordering. At receipt, compare product and document references against that same list. If integration work is included separately, identify the contractor and handover procedure.

This keeps purchasing and technical preparation connected through explicit items, documents and responsibilities.
