Inductotherm Group Corporate Architecture and Four Core Business Lines

Founded in 1953 by Henry M. Rowan in Rancocas, New Jersey, USA, Inductotherm built its first induction melting furnace in 1954 and established its first international manufacturing operation in Australia in 1968.

Certified to ISO 9001 in the United States since 1993 (currently holding ISO 9001:2015 certification), Inductotherm and its sister organizations have engineered and built more than 41,000 induction melting and heating installations across the globe.

Today, Inductotherm Group unites 40 operating companies manufacturing 50 distinct product lines across 10 specialized global brands, including Inductotherm, Inductoheat, Thermatool, and Consarc.

Its industrial portfolio spans four specialized business pillars: Induction Melting & VIP Power Supplies (Melting), Automated Pouring & Holding Furnaces (Pouring), Mass Heating & Heat Treating (Heating), and Strip Coating, Galvannealing & HF Welding (Coating).

Coreless Induction Melting Furnaces: Heavy Steel Shell, Dura-Line, and Steel Frame

For high-production iron, steel, and copper-alloy melt shops, Heavy Steel Shell coreless furnaces (ranging from 350 kg to 100 metric tons capacity) provide maximum structural rigidity.

Heavy rolled-steel shells lined with laminated magnetic shunts confine the electromagnetic flux and compress the heavy-wall copper coil, extending refractory lining life.

Configurable options include hydraulic nose tilting, 33° back-slagging tilt, 12° back-tilting for charge buckets, hydraulic lining push-out rams, and close-capture MACT fume collection hoods.

For medium-capacity and specialty alloy foundries, Dura-Line furnaces (25 kg to 3 metric tons) utilize cast refractory or reinforced aluminum bodies with a patented Free Breathing coil that accommodates thermal expansion.

Steel Frame furnaces cover 4 to 60 metric tons with open structural access to shunts.

Non-ferrous and precision investment casters utilize Push-Out removable crucible furnaces (50–300 kg copper, 20–100 kg aluminum), Lift-Swing furnaces, waterless Acutrak DEH aluminum furnaces (300 kg / 110 kW, 500 kg / 115 kW, 1000 kg / 150 kW), and Mini-Melt / Rollover furnaces (2.5–50 kg).

VIP SCR and VIP-I IGBT Power Supplies and Digital Melt Control

At the heart of every Inductotherm melt shop is the VIP (Variable Induction Power) converter family, spanning unit and modular outputs from 15 kW to 24 MW.

Series and parallel SCR converters alongside hybrid VIP-I IGBT power supplies deliver full rated power from cold charge startup through liquid metal superheating while maintaining high power factor and low harmonic distortion.

Multi-output Dual-Trak, Tri-Trak, and Quad-Trak systems share power dynamically between two, three, or four furnaces without mechanical furnace selector switches.

For multi-zone graphite susceptors and process vessels, the VIP Multi-Switch converter distributes up to 1,500 kW across up to 8 independent coil zones.

Supervisory automation platforms—including Melt-Manager Plus and Meltminder 300—automate cold-start sintering cycles, compute exact kWh/ton energy input, monitor ground-leakage currents, and log diagnostic telemetry via noise-immune fiber-optic links.

Melt Shop Robotics and Refractory Diagnostics: ARMS and IRIS

To remove foundry operators from radiant heat and splash hazards on the melt deck, the ARMS (Automated Robotic Melt Shop) system deploys a foundry-grade robotic manipulator with payload ratings from 30 to 500 kg.

Equipped with automatic quick-change tooling, ARMS performs mechanized furnace deslagging, immersion thermocouple temperature measurement, molten metal lollipop sampling, bath grounding continuity verification, and alloy trim additions.

Refractory lining integrity is tracked by the IRIS (Infrared Refractory Inspection System) long-range laser scanner.

Positioned safely outside the furnace perimeter, IRIS scans the hot or cold crucible wall in minutes, generating a high-density 3D point cloud that is compared against the baseline sintered profile to map exact millimeter wear in the slag line, barrel, and lower cone.

Automated Pouring Systems, VISIPOUR Optical Control, and Holding Furnaces

For high-speed indexing and continuous molding lines, Inductotherm manufactures inductor-heated Pressure Pour furnaces with usable capacities from 1.8 to 25 metric tons, dual-stream MULTI-POUR furnaces (2 to 5 metric tons), four-axis Flexi-Pour systems (X, Y, Z, and tilt motion), TILT-POUR rotary

ladles (250 to 1,500 kg), and Unheated Tundishes capable of pouring 3 to 13 metric tons per hour.

Closed-loop pouring accuracy is governed by the VISIPOUR optical vision system with P3 (Predictive Pour Performance) servo stopper actuation, paired with iNOC and Visinoc stream inoculation systems that verify inoculant entrainment optically on every mold.

Buffer storage and duplexing are handled by Channel Holding furnaces up to 170 metric tons capacity with hot-changeable single or twin-loop inductors, and Coreless Holding furnaces featuring the Mini-Heel coil design that operates down to a 30% molten heel.

IMZ Mass Heating, Forge Billet Heaters, and Strip Galvannealing Lines

In rolling mills and forging plants, IMZ (Induction Multi-Zone) continuous heating lines process steel slabs, blooms, bars, and billets with individual zone temperature profiling.

An IMZ slab heating installation requires only ~10 m of mill line length compared to long fossil-fuel furnaces, virtually eliminating scale loss and surface decarburization.

Modular Inductoforge billet heaters serve forge shops, while Inductoheat supplies Statipower, CamPro, CrankPro, and Inductoscan systems for induction hardening of shafts, gears, rails, and mill rolls.

For continuous galvanizing and coating lines, Inductotherm provides high-frequency Galvannealing towers up to 5,000 kW featuring the patented Doorless Coil for rapid strip threading, coreless and channel zinc/Alu-Zinc coating pots, STATITRON tin reflow systems, UNISEAL/UNISTRIP boost heaters up to

7,000 kW, and patented UNIEDGE automatic edge heaters that raise strip edge temperature by +50 °C within 50 mm of the edge without mechanical adjustment.

OEM Replacement Parts, Heavy-Wall Coils, and Technical Identification

Maintaining peak availability on VIP converters and melting furnaces requires factory-matched electrical and water-cooled spare parts rated for intense medium-frequency currents and cyclic thermal loads.

We supply matched SCR thyristors (147-3176), rectifier diodes (147-3178-W), snubber resistors and water-cooled capacitors, fiber-optic gate driver and isolation boards (IP#170-7089), coil short detectors (#808331), and manifold temperature switches (149-0731S, 149-0755S).

For furnace bodies, available spares include heavy-wall extruded copper induction coils with Dura-Shield insulation and mica slip-plane kits, laminated magnetic shunt packs, asbestos-free water-cooled power leads, hydraulic tilt cylinders, and bottom ground-probe assemblies.
